When I received the e-mail to set up this session, I was told these kiddos were avid swimmers, but I don’t think I had any idea of truly how drawn to the water they’d be! Within two minutes of arriving and getting their bathing suits on, they were swimming,  splashing, jumping and laughing. It was an awesome underwater session and their joy was contagious. There are many variables when it comes to underwater sessions and after doing everything in my power to get the layer of pollen off the top of the water (seriously…you could see it literally descending on the water in a cloud-like fashion from the pine trees the morning of the session) and heating the frigid water to a very comfortable temperature, this session went off swimmingly (see what I did there.. ha!) and I’m in love with the images that we captured during our time together. I am excited to be opening up a few underwater sessions again this summer and look forward to seeing some of my favorites in the water!

I think I may *still* be in a bit of shock over the fact that one of my images earned a 2017 Shoot & Share Contest first place award last month. After seeing all of the gorgeous images that were submitted in 2016, I knew I wanted to participate in the contest this year. Suffice it to say, I am incredibly honored that the image below placed 1st out of 23,969 images entered for the category of Children: Kids/Teens.

For those that don’t follow me over on Instagram – which is where I post the majority of my underwater work –  you may not know that I am totally and completely smitten with documenting moments that happen under the water’s surface. To have this genre of my work earn such an award is an incredible “cherry on top” of an art form that I already love so much. Thank you to each and every one of you who voted for my image and a great big, HUGE thanks to Shoot and Share for organizing and facilitating such an incredible contest that unites our photography community in such amazing ways. I’m already looking forward to 2018!

Atlanta Maternity Photography Session:

This session was a dream come true. You see, this second time, mama-to-be is a dear friend of mine and is the creative mind behind Ashley Berrie Photography. Ashley and I got to know each other a few years ago and she has become a valued friend and confidant since the first time I photographed her family a few falls back. And I think it is a good thing that I love her so…because if not, my jealously over how beautiful she’s doing pregnancy would be totally out.of.control. I mean…I don’t think I even knew there were women out there who look like they were about to go walk the runway at 8 months pregnant. 😉 But here’s her secret: her heart matches her beauty and she is one of the kindest, funniest, goof-balls you’ll ever meet. She’s a true gem and I couldn’t be more thrilled for her and the precious journey she is about to embark upon as she welcomes her second beautiful boy into the world. I simply can not wait to get my hands on him during their Fresh 48 session in just a week or two. Ashley, you’ve been warned. I may hold him more than I actually photograph him. 😉 Thank you for trusting your irreplaceable memories to me. I am truly honored to help you document this beautiful time in your life so that your sweet boys will be able to remember what their mama looked like *in front* of the camera rather than behind. xoxo

I adore this family and knew that the session I had planned with them on a gorgeous fall evening in Vinings would truly be one of my most fun of the entire year…and I was right. The mama, Katie, and I met two years ago over our mutual interest in photography. Katie is also a child and family photographer in the metro-Atlanta area (check out her work here – she is the real deal! Such beautiful work!) and it is just so nice to connect with someone who just *gets* the business you do day in and day out. Katie has been a trusted confidant, friend, supporter and encourager to me and I value her friendship immensely. I was just so pumped to capture her family together…and they did not disappoint. I think it is easy to see that we had just a little bit of fun during our evening together. 😉

  • katie - Well this just made my day!!!
