Mommy Confession #1

The other day I was reading this article and it really hit home. So often, I only bring my camera (or iphone if we’re talking Instagram) out to capture the “important” things. For example, the things that got the big guy (aka my D700) off the shelf this week were my daughter meeting her preschool teachers for the first time, Harrison’s 2 month milestone pictures and Annie’s first ballet/tap class. These are all fabulous, wonderful events that I, of course, want to remember when they are older. However, after reading this article, I realized I was missing a TON of other things I want to remember, as well. Life isn’t just a series of events. It is also the “inbetweens”…the moments that aren’t perfect…that make this life beautiful and frustrating and wonderful and stressful.

So, I’ve decided to make it a point to start documenting the inbetweens. The moments that aren’t perfect. The overflowing laundry, the sticky fingers, the tantrums, the events that, if not documented will not be committed to memory and will, therefore, be forgotten over time. This won’t necessarily be something I do every day or even every week…but it is something that I’m going to try to keep up with. These memories are so important to me, too.

To start, bedtime around here has gotten kinda hairy since the arrival of Harrison. Some nights, my energy gauge is completely on empty by the time bedtime rolls around…which was the case the other night. When that happens, story time is non-existent and the iPad is handed over to take care of bedtime duties. She was told she was loved greatly and tucked in tightly, but the iPad had the responsibility of giving the bedtime story…

P.S. Please note the waaayy too big pajama shirt that is a hand-me-down. She refuses to wear anything else right now. She has to have her “Ariel” shirt. And don’t you dare tell her it is not, in fact, Ariel, but Strawberry Shortcake. It is not!

Uh oh…. We had a long discussion about Strawberry Shortcake, and I showed her the strawberries on her jammie top. She was very receptive to it, but I did agree with her that she could call her Ariel. She also loved the fact that you had a Strawberry Shortcake sleeping bag when you were three.
